Turbine instrument review 2 Years, 4 Months ago
Hello All,

I have been reviewing the Turbine instrument and have a concern. It relates to the fact that I have not viewed/reviewed any RTO training package relating to turbine operations. The consequence of this is I feel I am reviewing the revised assessment instrument without knowing what is being taught by any RTO. A case in point would be question 2 of the knowledge assessment. My suggested answer (below) is _base_d on current NSW Fire Brigade training, however I do not know if this is the standard being taught by any RTO. A similar position exists regarding suggestions for the calculation section. This is _base_d on Delta Electricity training for operators historically including an understanding of a Mollier diagram, however an RTO may not teach at this level. Appreciate your suggestions.

Suggested answers;
Q2 (note latest codes refer to A,B,C,E,and F class).
1:E Class fire extinguisher ie CO2 or dry powder
2:B Class fire extinguisher ie Organic Foam
3:A Class fire extinguisher ie Water
4:A Class fire extinguisher ie Water
5:C Class fire extinguisher ie Powder
6:C Class fire extinguisher ie Powder
7:D Class or alternately Water in large volume

As an RTO, we do cover an understanding of the Mollier diagram. It is currently part of the boiler module though.

We have been using the QLD licence package to date for the turbine module. The questions in David's Assessment Instrument align with the module very well. You correctly point out that we need to be mindful that there may be differing standards across the States too.
